Retrieving Lost Data - File Recovery Tools
Saturday, April 17, 2010

Yep, at some point someone most likely has told you to back your files up. Did you listen? The answer is pretty obvious from where I'm sitting. I'm going to assume that you didn't back those files up, and that's why you're sitting there reading this article looking for information on the internet-yes, I do have to rub it in a bit! Let's see if I can help you get back those lost files!

That's enough of that, we need to start talking solutions!

Before we get into solutions, there is something else we need to cover-preventative measures! Yep, that's right! We're covering all those things you should have done before this problem ever arose. Print and store any printable document before you start backing up anything. A hard copy can be very important during certain situations when electronic copies can't be accessed, like during a power outage or several other scenarios.

As for backing up on the electronic side of things, it's going to be the usual suspects: CD, DVD, USB Flash Drive, and Kevin Spacey...wait a second, that last one wasn't right was it? Oh yeah, you can never rule out an email account-great for backing up electronic files and being able to access them on-the-fly from nearly anywhere!

Power outages, hardware failures, software glitches, and wild nephews can all lead to substantial data loss and insane nightmares which are detailed by trying to recover lost data. Another possible alternative is going through a paid online data storage company, great way to have an off-location "electronic safe."

Okay, let's hit the bricks now, no matter the dreadful situation that has befallen you, we need to get those darn files back! Make sure there not still in the Recycle Bin still waiting to be completely sent to word processor document heaven-believe it or not, this has been the answer to this problem far too many times.

If you'd rather not deal with the situation yourself you could always pay a computer technician a hefty amount of cash to get out his digital shovel and start slinging digital dirt over his shoulders. It'll most likely hurt your bank account, but it'll make his day. One computer repair session and his World of Warcraft account gets an upgrade, more than likely.

If you're going to hand the situation yourself, then you're going to need your own set of data recovery tools! There are many different data recovery software programs online which are being offered for free, but they also come with a lack of support for future upgrades, telephone customer support service, and they're more than likely going to be package with advertisements-developers have to pay for their development costs somehow!

Lost File Recovery - What is the Best File Recovery Software For Windows?
Wednesday, April 7, 2010

The best file recovery software for restoring deleted files should have the ability to recover all your deleted files and folders. Data files, graphic files, multi media files, zipped files and emails should all be easily and quickly recovered with the power of such an application. There are causes for files getting deleted accidentally - systems and software failure, virus and disk drive corruption plus careless deletion of files or folders. What ever the file deletion reason is the application should act as a safety net for home users and professionals alike to save their deleted files.

After a file is deleted it typically moves into the recycle bin and later is erased from there also. But the file contents persist in the drive till it is overwritten by other content. The best file recovery software algorithm looks for file content that is still there on disk and gathers them to make up the recovered file. Even if some of the content has been overwritten this application should be built to put together a partially recovered file which you can use as a starting point to rebuild your lost content. It should be easy to use and you will not need to possess any technical expertise to use this software.

Online downloading of the application should be available at an affordable cost. Not only this - if you are dissatisfied with the product for any reason you should get your money back. A downloadable demo version for users to understand the application features would be an added advantage.

Some features a good restore software application should have:

  • Best file recovery software should recover files from many drive types like hard drives, zip drives, USB external drives, removable flash drives and more
  • Be able to recover files deleted accidentally due to any cause including system failure
  • You would be able to scan a standard hard drive in a few minutes
  • Application should let you use a quick scan or advanced scan option to scan files
  • Should have ability to recover multiple files as a batch
  • You should be able to scan all the files and directories in any selected drive
  • Should allow you to use partial or full file names while scanning for them
  • Disks with bad sectors should also supported
  • Application should use a non destructive algorithm in order to ensure there is no danger of content being destroyed during recovery

File Recovery From Windows 2003 Quorum Disk
Saturday, April 3, 2010

In Microsoft Windows 2003 Server MSCS (Microsoft Cluster Service) environment, MSCS service attempts to retrieve the quorum disk when MSCS folder in quorum disk can not be accessed or it doesn't exist. In such case, the quorum disk might be corrupted after MSCS attempts to retrieve the it. In such situations, you can not access files from your Windows 2003 hard drive and come across critical file loss situations. In order to recover lost files at this point, file recovery software solutions are required.

In a practical scenario, when you try to access the disk, you might come across the below given error message:

"Error 0x800713de: the quorum disk could not be located by the cluster service"

You could check whether the disk is influenced with this issue by applying Chkdsk in read only mode. You could apply Chkdsk in read only mode when you don't use /x or /f options. For instance, you could type "chkdsk <DRIVE letter>" at command prompt and then hit Enter. If your hard drive is affected by this issue, you can apply Chkdsk in read only mode, you might encounter the below given error message:

"The type of the file system is NTFS.
The volume is in use by another process.
Chkdsk might report errors when no corruption is present.
Volume label is Volume.
WARNING! F parameter not specified. Running CHKDSK in read-only mode.
CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)... Deleting corrupt attribute record (112, "") from file record segment 3.
File verification completed. Errors found.
CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode."

When this issue takes place, don't run Chkdsk with /x or /f option on quorum. Doing so might damage the disk data structure and cause file loss.

Root of the issue

You might come across this problem when MSCS service attempts to retrieve it from damaged state. In such situation, invalid or incorrect volume data and information might be written on the drive. This situation requires hard drive recovery to be sorted out.

Resolution

In order to overcome this issue and retrieve your valuable files, go for windows hard drive recovery software . These are powerful and advanced applications, which thoroughly scan affected hard drive and retrieve lost, missing and inaccessible files from it. These applications allow you to carry out Do It Yourself recovery.
